Hard Lessons

Three hard lessons I learned personally this last decade:

1. No matter how hard you love a person, she/he will die.

2. When the person dies, you lay her/him down and hold her/his eyes down with two fingers until rigor mortis sets in. (Otherwise the eyes will be half-opened in death.)

3. Kids are beautiful fragile beings. As Mitch Albom said,

All parents damage their children. It cannot be helped. Youth, like pristine glass, absorbs the prints of its handlers. Some parents smudge, others crack, a few shatter childhoods completely into jagged little pieces, beyond repair.
