I Beat the Odds: From Homelessness, to The Blind Side, and Beyond by Michael Oher: If you recall, Michael Oher was the down-but-not-out, football-playing black kid in the 2009 film, The Blind Side, that won Sandra Bullock her leading actress Oscar prize. Personally, I thought the film superficially-treated a great true story. (Sandra Bullock was good but a far-cry from an Oscar-winning performance, I think.) The Michael Oher character was portrayed as dumb, and as the real Michael said in his book, he is not stupid, just did not knew how to do school then. The book upon which the movie was based, which had the same title, has so much texture and fine story-telling, as is the usual in a Michael Lewis treatment of a subject.
Go read and find out about Michael Oher, the real person, in his own words. The last part of his book has a lot of good advice for every body.
