Baseball: ALCS Game 2

Boston Red Sox 6, Detroit Tigers 5

Until the penultimate inning of the so-far 2 games series of the American League Championship Series, Detroit’s pitchers subjected the Red Sox offense to such a severe examination they could barely write their names on the test papers. Then David Ortiz—the ever glowering slugger—stepped up with the bases loaded…and hit a as-sweet-spot-as-you-can home run.

What a jailbreak! I thought with a 0-2 deficit to take the Detroit the Red Sox will never recover and will be swept. In hind sight, the decision to load the bases (with Ortiz on deck) rather than going for a single run was a fantastic decision by the Sox coaches.

Go Red Sox!
