The Higgs boson could hiccup and end all reality

Remember the big news about the confirmation of the existence of the Higgs boson last year? (Note: read this article too.)

Now, a scientist is saying (reported in the New York Times) that an “unlucky quantum fluctuation” can change the Higgs field, “drop to a lower energy state, like water freezing into ice, thereby obliterating the workings of reality as we know it. Naturally, we would have no warning. Just blink and it’s over.”

Ouch!
